LAUNCESTON 5 TORPOINT 8 (9-13 ON AGGREGATE to Torpoint) This was always going to be a game which was a tight well fought encounter due to Torpoint trailing 3 goals to 2 and not having beaten Launceston this season. However Torpoint were the first team out the blocks with their first shot at goal coming within a minute when Hayley Chamberlain shot just wide. A minute later Torpoint had another chance of taking the lead when a Kirsty Lambert shot was well saved by the Launceston keeper. From the clearance Launceston went on the attack but it was quickly snuffed out by Emma Jenks, who cleared the ball away. On five minutes Launceston had their first real attack when Jill Haines went through on goal, only for Jenks to put in a strong tackle to clear the ball away from danger. Torpoint had lots of chances to take the lead through Lambert and Donna Gage and were finally rewarded for their efforts when on 20 minutes a cross by Lambert found Gage, who coolly slotted the ball into the net to make the score 1-0, and 3-3 on aggregate. A minute later Launceston could have equalised through a well struck free kick which was brilliantly saved by stand-in keeper Helen Rundle. On 27 minutes Torpoint could have doubled their lead when a Mandi McCann through ball found Gage, who shot over the bar. Half Time Launceston 0-1 Torpoint Torpoint were still in the changing rooms when Launceston scored their equaliser within seconds of the restart to make the score 1-1 (4-3 on aggregate). However within 4 minutes Torpoint retook the lead when Lambert ran through and threaded the ball to Gage, who coolly slotted the ball home to make the 1-2 (4-4 on aggregate). Torpoint could have made it a bit more comfortable for themselves when a McCann shot was superbly saved by the Launceston keeper, whose efforts were keeping them in the game. 10 minutes later Launceston could have equalised when a Jill Haines shot was cleared off the line by Finch. Her clearance landed at the feet of Haines who had another shot. Luckily for Torpoint Finch's stomach was in the way of the rebound and Torpoint finally cleared the ball away. More shots went flying in at the Launceston goal from Chamberlain, Lambert and Gage but none prevailed. Torpoint were to find themselves rueing their missed chances when Launceston equalised with a shot into the far post to make the score 2-2 (5-4 on aggregate). This didn't worry Torpoint, who took the lead again on 70 minutes when a cross by Finch found Lambert, who slotted the ball past the Launceston keeper. Torpoint could have sealed the victory on 85 minutes when a Chamberlain free kick hit the bar bounced down on the wrong side of the line and was cleared away. Full Time 2-3 (5-5 on aggregate) Now it was time to find who had the fight left in them to finish off the game. There weren't very many chances in the first half of extra time as neither team wanted to concede, but Torpoint were the ones who did when a cross shot went in over Rundle. Torpoint continued to battle and were rewarded on 10 minutes when Lambert and Gage linked up again for Gage to run through on goal and placed the ball into the bottom corner. Half time of extra time 3-4 (7-7 on aggregate). In the second half extra time both teams had chances to win the game. The first chance went to Torpoint when a cracking shot by McCann was tipped over the bar by the outstanding Launceston keeper. It was then Launceston's turn when a shot from 20 yards out was tipped around the post by Rundle. That proved to be the last kick of the game which meant it had to be settled by penalties. Torpoint penalties were taken by Chamberlain, Finch (miss), Lambert, Gage, and Jenksie, who won 4-2 to send them through to the final.
